# The Saffron Reading

> A free, no-email tool at https://saffrondesigns.io/brand-soul-lab (also /reading). Paste a website address; Saffron reads the site the way a new customer does, measures what it finds, assembles a one-page brief, and ends in a booked thirty-minute consultation with the brief already attached.

## What it measures

One server-side request from Saffron to the site, no cache, no browser. Every fact is read from the bytes returned and carries the method next to it. If something cannot be measured it is not shown.

- Reach: HTTPS, HTTP status and redirects, time to first byte, document weight, compression, HSTS, content security policy.
- Identity: page title and length, search description and length, H1 headline count, declared language, machine-readable identity (JSON-LD types), link preview (Open Graph image and title), tab icon, platform fingerprint, footer copyright year.
- Phones: viewport meta.
- Can a customer act: tap-to-call (tel: links vs phone numbers shown only as text), book or request online (booking links or forms), tap-to-email, review and social links.
- Craft: image count, images missing alt text, images without width and height, external scripts, external stylesheets, third-party font requests, visible word count.
- Optional, on request: Google Lighthouse on a simulated phone through Google PageSpeed Insights (performance, accessibility, best practices, SEO, largest contentful paint, cumulative layout shift, total blocking time). Shown only when the run completes; never estimated.

## What it does not do

- It does not crawl beyond the address given.
- It does not run scripts, render the page, or log in.
- It does not send the address to any screenshot service. The only picture shown is Google Lighthouse's own render of the page on a simulated phone, and only when that run completes.
- It does not store anything server-side until the visitor books. The brief lives in the visitor's link (the URL fragment) and in their own browser.
- It never invents a number. A failed measurement is reported as not measured.

## The journey

1. Threshold: the website address, or "I don't have a site yet".
2. The reading: the verdict first, then every measured fact, then the Lighthouse run. The verdict ranks what was measured by how directly it touches calls, bookings and trust (for example, no way to book online outranks a long search description), names up to three items with why each costs customers and what fixes it, and lists what already works. It adds no numbers of its own; the only figures shown are the measurements.
3. Who you are: business name, what it does, who it serves, staff size, what the site must produce, where it fails today (some suggested by the reading).
4. Up against: one competitor, read the same way, side by side, led by a scoreline (lines each side leads, lines level) and the one gap that matters most, in words.
5. The feel: three pairs and two dials, applied to a live card with real WCAG contrast maths.
6. The brief: one page, shareable by link, printable.
7. The sitting: thirty minutes with Aladdin Hamed, Saffron's founder, not a salesperson. An in-page calendar over Saffron's live availability; the booking carries the brief.

## Pricing shown

Package fit is read from the published rates at https://saffrondesigns.io/rates, the 95/7 Fast-Track at https://saffrondesigns.io/7-day and Saffron Signal at https://saffrondesigns.io/seo. Nothing in the Reading is a quote.

The fit follows what was measured. No site, a phone speed under 90, a broken foundation (no HTTPS, a failing server, no phone layout), or the owner saying the site no longer represents them: the 95/7 Fast-Track. A site that measures sound but is hard to find: Saffron Signal. A sound site with a specific gap, such as no online booking: no rebuild, a priced fix, with care on the published ladder if wanted. A site that measures well: it says so, and that a rebuild is probably not the best use of the owner's money.

## Proof shown

Saffron's own Lighthouse receipt is loaded live from https://saffrondesigns.io/ledger.json (four consecutive runs, worst run published). When the visitor's scores already sit level with it, the brief says so: speed is not where they lose customers.
